Bristol Beaufighter X NE218 Memorial Binbrook
In 2024, a new memorial commemorating the loss of Bristol Beaufighter X NE218 (incorrect serial number on plaque) of No. 254 Squadron, Coastal Command, was placed on a public footpath that crosses a field to the west of the Church of England Primary School in Binbrook village. The aircraft was flying from North Coates, Lincolnshire to Langham, Norfolk on 11 March 1945 to position to take part in a Conebo operation (anti-shipping) the following day. It crashed at around 21:00 hours near Binbrook with the loss of Flt Sgts Richard Bell Stewart (22, buried Tollcross Cemetery Glasgow) and Edward Charles Pakes 'Teddy' Langley (23, buried St Margaret's Churchyard, Rottingdean).
Bristol Beaufighter X NE218 was one of a batch of 500 aircraft delivered between November 1943 and April 1944 by the Bristol Aeroplane Company from its shadow factory near Weston-super-Mare.
